Qurbani, or animal sacrifice, is one of the most significant acts of worship for Muslims across the world, performed during the days of Eid-ul-Adha. It commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Ismail (AS), teaching us obedience, faith, and compassion.
✨ The Spiritual Essence of Qurbani
The act of Qurbani is not about the meat or the animal itself — it is about taqwa (piety). As Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an:
“It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is your piety that reaches Him.” (Surah Al-Hajj 22:37)
When we perform Qurbani, we remind ourselves of complete submission to Allah’s will and the importance of sharing blessings with others.
🐐 Which Animals Are Allowed?
In Pakistan, most people sacrifice goats, cows, buffaloes, or camels. Each type of animal has specific rules:
-
Goat/Sheep → 1 share
-
Cow/Buffalo → 7 shares
-
Camel → 7 shares
Animals must be healthy, without defects, and of a certain minimum age (for example, goats must be at least 1 year old, cows at least 2 years old).
🍖 Distribution of Meat
The Sunnah encourages dividing the meat into three parts:
-
One part for your household
-
One part for relatives and friends
-
One part for the poor and needy
This balance ensures that everyone benefits from the joy of Eid.
🤲 The Dua for Qurbani
Before sacrificing, recite:
“Bismillahi Allahu Akbar, Allahumma minka wa laka, Allahumma taqabbal minni.”
(Translation: In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, this is from You and for You. O Allah, accept it from me.)
